Pot Cakes Dynasty League Week 1 Recap

Good morning everyone, what an exciting first week of the NFL season. The Pot Cakes Dynasty League had a little bit of everything this week. Breakouts, injuries, bench points, goose eggs, and most importantly fun. Let’s take a look at how the games went starting with our (unsponsored) game of the week.

CrossFit v. PeePaw

v,

The first game of the week was not disappointing. The lead dog was in this matchup. Unfortunately for PeePaw, it was CrossFit. Dak was incredible in the season opener, adding a smooth 41 points paired with Amari Coopers 32. That is one way to start the season for CrossFit. CMC is back with 23, and Ekeler, despite early week hammy concerns came through with 11 points. Tyler Lockett had his typical boom week with 24 and Kelce put up 22. CrossFit has an injury concern with Mostert, Mostert went down with a knee injury. The 49ers are known to ride the hot hand, so Mostert could find himself at the bottom of the rotation. PeePaw had a rough week. Cook put up 17, Lamb 21, and Justin Jefferson had 10. Early Sunday Trey Sermon was a healthy scratch, causing PeePaw to put Tyrell Williams in his lineup. This leaves Pascall and Agholor with solid bench points. However, it would not have mattered. The big concerns are Davante only having 8 and Aiyuk having 0.7 points. I am not sure what is going on there, but those two should have been sure things. PeePaw drops the opener 127.15 to 210.75.

Touchdown Guy v. Bruce

v.

Touchdown Guy continues his winning streak. TDG has the longest active winning streak in the PCDL. Josh Allen was ok with 25, Melvin Gordon surprised with 19, Thielen had 25, and Mike Williams added 18. The surprising performance was Derrick Henry and Saquon having 9 and 3 points. These two have to put up 15 points a week for TDG to make his run. Luckily for TDG he faced a team with similar problems. Bruce had Godwin with 19, Chark with 16, and JT with 14. Bruce’s first pick in the draft was Zeke who had 4 points and pick 1.01 of the rookie draft was Najee Harris who added 5 points. Having top tier RBs is important, but if they do not perform close to their average, your team is going to lose. That is exactly what happened. TDG wins a close one 124 to 118.

Pistol v. Bottom Bunk

v.

This is the game for first pick. I think Pistol is comfortable with where his team is at. The guys that will be part of his rebuild did alright. Murray had 46, Hunt had 15, and Pitts had 8 targets but only added 5 points. The biggest miss for Pistol is that James Robinson only added 6 points. Other concerns are Sutton’s 1 point and Gage’s zero points. The trade market does not look good when these guys don’t perform. Bottom Bunk on the other hand went off. JameO went off for 42, Edmonds had a respectable 12, Jamaal Williams had 21, Corey Davis 24, Kirk had 21, and Sterling Shepard added 20. The weird thing was that Calvin Ridley only had 7 points. BB also saw David Johnson get touches. Which no one saw coming. BB won the game he shouldn’t but maybe some of these players stay relevant and can help BB’s rebuild. BB pulls off his first (and only?) win of the season, 197.1 to 112.

Batman v. Teach

v.

This was the game that gave us hope. Batman entered Monday with a chance to win, could he pull it off? D’Andre Swift showed out having 20 points, DeVonta Smith added 16, and Gaskin put up a solid 10 week 1. Lamar and Waller put up a combined 45 points for Monday night. Was it enough? Teach had a handful of guys go off to make up for Rodgers miserable 4 points. Mixon had a Jordan, Hill added 31, Hock put up 18, and even Jaylen Waddle added 14. Starting Latavius Murray was a reach seeing as he had like two days to learn the Ravens offense. Murray got in the end zone. It paid off, well at least his other starts did. Lamar needed to come up big and he was a letdown. Teach wins a the Monday night showdown 160.85 to 146.45.

Trashman v. Mush’s Mongrels

v.

Week 1 of the NFL season and Trashman failed to check his lineup before kickoff. Zack Moss was OUT, and put up 0 points for Trashman. However, the Browns in Chubb and Juice paired up for 38 points. Trevor Lawrence, the most controversial rookie pick at 1.04 added 31 points which is a good start and something I think most would take for the QB slot. Aaron Jones flopped like all Packers adding only 3 points. Mush had some big hitters. Antonio Brown showed out on Thursday night adding 21 points. Deebo also put up 27 points. Gesicki had 0 and Parris Campbell 2 were bad weeks for Mush. But Jacobs really saved the day putting up a sweet 16 even while dinged up all night. The good news is that Reagor had a day on Mush’s bench, putting up 15 points. That’s promising considering all the question marks Mush has with his young WR team. Mush got away with one 162.55 to 117.6. Check your rosters people.

Daddy Wombat v. JonnyDIII’s Joyful Demons

v.

This game had some ups and downs. DW opened with Gio Bernard and 2 points on Thursday. De’Andre Hopkins showed everyone why he’s a top 5 receiver adding 23 points. Kamara put up 16, and Jeudy added 10. Jeudy did suffer an ankle sprain and it would not surprise me to see him go on the IR or PUP early this week. Good news for DW is that Gabrial Davis and Rondale Moore both saw action adding 23 combined points. JonnyDIII had all but his QB go at the noon kickoff. Ja’Marr Chase added 18, Sanders and Cooks put up 15 each, and Terry McLaurin had an 8 point second half after being shutout in the first. Luckily for JD3, Mahomes had to do some last second heroics and put up 45 which was enough to put make it too big of a lead to give up. JD3 wins 167.25 to 150.58.

Two for three on predictions, James Rob was bad, but so was Ridley and Tyrell Williams. The surprise breakouts were the rookie WRs.

Now let’s look at Dr. Tilt.

Dr. Tilt is 1-2 to start the year.

Before we end it, let’s take a look at the Rookie Recap.

Pick 1.01 – Najee Harris – RB – Pittsburg Steelers – 5.4 points

Pick 1.02 – Ja’Marr Chase – WR – Cincinnati Bengals – 18.4 points

Pick 1.03 – Travis Etienne – RB – Jacksonville Jaguars – IR

Pick 1.04 – Trevor Lawrence – QB – Jacksonville Jaguars – 31.2 points

Pick 1.05 – Javonte Williams – RB – Denver Broncos – 4.6 points

Pick 1.06 – Kyle Pitts – TE – Atlanta Falcons – 5.1 points

Pick 1.07 – DeVonta Smith – WR – Philadelphia Eagles – 16.1 points

Pick 1.08 – Justin Fields – QB – Chicago Bears – 7 points

Pick 1.09 – Jaylen Waddle – WR – Miami Dolphins – 14.1 points

Pick 1.10 – Rondale Moore – WR – Arizona Cardinals – 12.08 points

Pick 1.11 – Trey Sermon – RB – San Francisco 49ers – OUT

Pick 1.12 – Michael Carter – RB – New York Jets – 2.5 points

Pick 1.13 – Trey Lance – QB – San Francisco 49ers – 6.55 points

If you drafted a rookie wide receiver in the first round you are super happy, Chase, Smith, Waddle, and Moore all had great games. Najee Harris was a big time let down, the Steelers o-line (check Top 65 rankings) is a huge concern. Lawrence can be start any week, he and the Jags were down against the Texans, no way they win a game this year. Javonte got some work, but Melly went off. If the Broncos keep winning, I think they keep riding Melly. Fields and Lance both got some work, and as long plays that is reassuring. Trey Sermon being a healthy scratch is very concerning. I would be very worried. Pitts and Michael Carter are also long plays, so some involvement is better than none. I’m just worried about the Falcons as a whole.

While those were the first round picks, let’s look at some steals. Some of the big hitters were Terrance Marshall – WR – Carolina Panthers, Anthony Schwartz – WR – Cleveland Browns, Larry Rountree III – RB – Los Angeles Chargers, Kenneth Gainwell – RB – Philadelphia Eagles, and Elijah Mitchell – RB – San Francisco 49ers. Elijah Mitchell is going to be the big time hitter this year. Unfortunately, Raheem Mostert is out for the remainder of the year. TDG followed the Top 65 and took Mitchell at pick 38, his rank was 39th. Others reached early, maybe even as early as pick 1.01 and now are having issues with points.

Well that does it for the first week of the season. CrossFit showed he’s the real deal and Bottom Bunk surprised a lot of people. Pistol, well he did what he and everyone else expected. The other teams are still figuring things out, seeing both breakouts and misses. Finding that balance is what is important for having a complete season. I think if you are PeePaw you see that you just missed some things, and after seeing how week 1 played out he can adjust his lineup. Plus, he’s not going to play CrossFit every week. For some of the other teams, big time names didn’t show up, you have to think that changes going forward. But if it doesn’t, then the old trade generator will have to get looked at to see what moves can be made to salvage a season. I will see you all tomorrow to look at the Week 2 Preview.

Let’s Go!
